Ojo Komolafe, a 78-year-old community leader, was found guilty of murdering Taofik Babalola, the owner of a school, and was found guilty of capital punishment by hanging by an Ondo state high court.
According to reports, Komolafe, who entered a not-guilty plea, shot and killed his victim in the year 2021.
According to reports, he allegedly committed the crime on August 7, 2021, in the Kajola neighbourhood of the Odigbo council area.
According to reports, the victim was dozing off when he was shot at close range.
Four witnesses were called by police prosecutor H.M. Falowo, including the deceased's wife, a neighbour, a police officer, and a pathologist.
Mrs Babalola, the deceased's widow, testified that she heard a gunshot, hurried outside, and saw the prisoner holding a revolver.
She claims that when she spotted the defendant leaving her husband's room, she immediately took to the ground out of concern that he may shoot her as well. After that, I hurried to my husband's room where I found him lying on his bed in a pool of blood, yelling with his last breath that Mr. Komolafe had shot him.
She said, "I raced out and called for help, but my husband perished in the process.
The defendant, however, rejected the charge, claiming that the deceased's widow was asked to bring charges against him."

Komolafe claimed that several suspected cult members who had been the subject of an arson investigation had planned a lie against him with the deceased's wife.
He claimed to have heard the gunfire that killed the victim while at home with his wife.
Justice Yemi Fasanmi noted anomalies in the defendant's statement in his decision, though.
The assertion that certain people plotted to have the convict killed, according to Fasanmi, is only a supposition.
He said that the prosecution had established its case beyond a reasonable doubt and that there was direct evidence connecting the convicted person to both the crime scene and the victim's death.
"I find that the defendant caused the death of the deceased by shooting him with a gun at close range, which ultimately caused his death," the judge declared. The deceased was also observed leaving the murder scene."In general, I find the defendant guilty of the two offences that were brought against him.
In addition, Justice Fasanmi pronounced the following judgment against the defendant: "You (the defendant) are hereby sentenced to be hanged on the neck, until you die in the first count, and seven years imprisonment for the second count."
