A young man named Chukwudi who lived in an apartment by the edge of a small drainage between Nkpokiti and Presidential Road in Ogui Township, Enugu, drowned as a result of flooding brought on by Sunday night rainfall.
A block of apartments built as an obstruction to a channel through which waters from the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, and surroundings collect and flow into the Asata River was said to be where the diseased, who reportedly had performed traditional rites and were getting ready for a wedding with his fiancée, was staying.
An eyewitness and fellow tenant in the compound, Mrs Nkechi Eze, claimed that the flooding from the blocked drainage into their compound had been ongoing for more than six years before it caused havoc in the same compound on Monday last week. No one was injured, but some of the basement occupants were forced to leave their apartments.
Then, even though the boy and girl don't stay there anymore, they merely came to inspect their property yesterday. Then it began to rain. He was the one who went outside after the flood to inform everyone that it had returned. He stated he wanted to bring out his property before his fiance and everyone else arrived.

He entered and never left again. A girl who lived in one of the apartments and was deaf and dumb was saved by people who went to aid. Around noon, the cops arrived and began scooping water out of the basement. They worked this morning from 12 to 5 a.m. with the addition of a water-draining machine. Everyone was outside hoping to see that youngster when, at 5 am, his lifeless body was discovered and the police arrived and removed it. Even an animal cannot survive here, let alone a person, according to the DPO.
