Court orders DSS to grant Emefiele access to lawyers, family image

The Department of State Services (DSS) has been ordered to permit Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), access to his attorneys and family by a federal capital territory (FCT) high court sitting in Maitama.
After receiving a request from Joseph Daudu, the attorney for Emefiele, the sitting judge, Hamza Muazu, issued the ruling on Friday.
Emefiele was requested to delegate his duties to the operations directorate and deputy governor Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi on June 9 after President Bola Tinubu suspended him.
The DSS revealed on Saturday that Emefiele was in its custody for "some investigative reasons"
I. Awo, the DSS's lawyer, responded that the agency didn't often turn down such petitions but added that they were unsuitable.
Awo promised that the DSS would abide by the court's decision and permit the designated attorneys and family members to visit the CBN governor who has been placed on administrative leave.
Emefiele's access to his attorneys and family, according to the judge, is within his constitutional rights.
In the meantime, an extension of time was asked by the attorneys for the DSS and the federation's attorney general to file their reply to the initial motion.
The hearing for the main lawsuit was postponed to June 19 after the court granted the motion.
