What Is Drop Shipping?

Dropshipping is a business model that allows an entrepreneur to sell products to customers without holding inventory. Inventory is is a term used to describe the goods or products that a business holds for sale or use in it's operations. • b. The droppshipper or seller

  • c. The customer

The droppshipper:

The droppshipper is the seller, retailer , entrepreneur, you can call it whatever you want but he is the one who sells the products to customers. The droppshipper runs a retail store but doesn't have the products it sells in stock. He never sees or handles the product he sells. Instead, when a customer pays for a product, the droppshipper purchases the product from the supplier and has it shipped to the customer.

The supplier:

The supplier or manufacturer is the one who actually sees and handles the products to be sold to the customer. When the droppshipper makes a customer's order known to the supplier, The supplier processes the customer's order and ships it directly to the customer.

The customer:

The customer is the one in need of a product. He places an order in the droppshipper's retail store.

However the process of dropshipping involves these steps:

  • a. A customer places an order on the droppshipper's website.

  • b. The droppshipper forwards the order and shipment details to their supplier or manufacturer.

  • c. The supplier ships the product directly to the customer under the droppshipper's brand name or label.

  • d. The droppshipper receives payment from the customer and pays the supplier for the product and shipping costs, keeping the difference as profit.
