The Department of State Services, DSS, has detained Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria's, CBN, suspended governor.
On the same day that Emefiele was arrested, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu immediately suspended him from office.
According to a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the report had earlier stated that Emefiele had been suspended "sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy."
Mr Tinubu has appointed Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as acting governor.
Emefiele unsuccessfully attempted to be arrested by the DSS earlier this year.
Emefiele had since then been arrested and prosecuted for terrorism financing and fraud allegations.
