Napoli, the Italian champions, have offered Victor Osimhen a new two-year contract worth N6.5bn — €6.5m plus €1m in bonuses.
With two years left on his contract in Napoli, the prolific striker had demanded a salary of €7 million per year to extend his present stay with the Italian champions, who are eager to lock him down to a new contract despite interest from some of Europe’s top teams.
According to reports, the new proposed deal will feature a £170 million release clause for the Nigerian striker.
The Nigerian talisman scored 26 goals in 32 games to lead the Partenopei to their first title in 33 years.
“Napoli is in advanced talks to extend his (Osimhen) contract until 2027 with an increase in salary to €6.5m plus €1m as bonuses,” Sky Sports revealed on Monday.
Napoli’s new manager, Rudi Garcia, indicated that the Nigerian would continue at the club for the start of the next season.
“Of course, I have spoken to Osimhen who wants to stay here to make another great season with Napoli,” Garcia said.
“I can assure you that he (OsImhen) wants to stay, he is happy to be with us and still wants to do great things.”
Osimhen scored 26 goals plus five assists in 32 league appearances for Napoli last season.
Meanwhile, Roberto Calenda, the agent of Napoli star forward, Victor Osimhen has debunked reports that claimed the striker has refused a new contract offer at Naples.
The 24-year-old has two years remaining on his contract at Napoli.
The Italian side is keen to convince him to extend his stay amidst the interest of a few European top clubs.
Roberto Calenda debunking the report by Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino, wrote on his Twitter page: “I read in Il Mattino that ‘Calenda has no intention of renewing in the summer and that he wants to explore all avenues in the market first. Fake news.”
In recent months, Osimhen has been linked to top European clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich but the Nigerian is seemingly happy to commit his future to Napoli and sign a contract extension.
He scored 25 goals and added 4 assists in 32 league appearances to emerge as the highest goal scorer and lead Partenopei to their first Serie A title in 33 years.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has insisted that he is not interested in selling the 24-year-old this summer. He suggested that it would take upwards of €150m to sign the striker who is the club’s most valuable player.
