The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Niger, Umunya, Anambra State, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, have described the University on the Niger as a university that values character over anything else.
In their separate speeches during the orientation programme for the pioneer students of the institution held at Archbishop C. J. Patterson Auditorium, Onitsha, Peter Obi and Nebo said the “uniqueness of our university stems, first, from the fact that it is a faith-based institution."
They also said it is an entrepreneurial university; a university that is built on the solid principle of entrepreneurship, because it intends to produce students who have an entrepreneurial mindset.
Peter Obi, a former Anambra State governor whose administration upgraded the standard of education and renovated schools, earlier visited the Iyi-Enu Mission Teaching Hospital, a take-off campus of the institution where he expressed satisfaction over the work on the ground and made a donation of N10 million to the university for its further development.
Nebo in his opening speech encouraged the students not to relent in their various disciplines in the school and took time to explain the philosophical uniqueness underpinning the institution.
Responding while receiving the cheque of N10 million from Peter Obi, the Bishop of Niger, Dr Owen Nwokolo, expressed appreciation for Peter Obi’s magnanimity and the special love he has for education and the things of God.
