The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, have disproved a report that a University lecturer stole some phones belonging to students who were writing exams.
This was stated in a press release issued by the University's Public Relations Officer, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, on Wednesday in Ile-Ife.
"The attention of OAU, Ile-Ife, management has been drawn to a viral video in which a male young adult was allegedly involved in stealing the phones of some students who were in the examination hall."
"Some claimed he was a lecturer, while others claimed he was an invigilator."
"Putting the record straight, the University's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, stated that the culprit was neither a lecturer in any of our Departments nor a student of our University," he said.
Olanrewaju claimed that a well-dressed man in a suit arrived on campus and was later spotted swiping phones from the backpacks of students taking exams
He emphasized that his attire led individuals who caught him taking phones to believe he was a lecturer assigned to invigilate the exam.
"As a result, we want the general public to completely disregard any suggestion that the perpetrator has any connection with the University," Olanrewaji added.
