Three trafficked Ebonyi teenage girls rescued in Ghana
Three teenage girls from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State allegedly trafficked to Ghana, have been rescued.
The girls, whose names were given as Ogah Chinecherem from Ohatekwe Amagu, Odor Favour from Abina Amagu and Osinachi Nweke Umanyi from Ndioduma Omege Echara, both from the area, were rescued by the Chairman of Ikwo Development Union, Lagos branch, Mr Meba Igwe.
They were allegedly trafficked by a woman from the same local government, Mrs Abigail Nweke, and were handed over to a Cross River woman whose name could not be immediately ascertained for movement to Ghana.
The teenagers reportedly left their different homes in January this year.
They were first taken to Lagos, where they were being moved to Ghana, but were intercepted by immigration officers on the border patrol.
Chairman of Ikwo Development Union, Lagos branch, Imeba Igwe got wind of the development and rescued them.
The girls were, however, handed over to the Chairman of Ikwo local government area, Barr.Sunday Nwankwo, on Wednesday in his office at the local government headquarters.
He commended Igwe for accepting to be a rescue mechanism for the girls.
Nwankwo enjoined parents to be monitoring their children closely to checkmate ugly incidents in their children.
He promised to take the responsibility of enrolling the girls in their chosen areas of life.
The rescued girls were handed over to their respective Ward Councillors to take them back to their parents.
