WhatsApp Launches Broadcast Message Channel Features For Organizations And Businesses
WhatsApp is introducing a Channel function for groups and enterprises to broadcast messages. According to WhatsApp, the new feature would allow users to follow groups and bodies on the app. Mark Zuckerberg announced that the new function would be available to users globally later this year.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, is experimenting with giving its users more conversational outlets by rolling out a broadcast-based messaging tool called Channels on WhatsApp, similar to the recent change it introduced on Instagram.
In the future, the business hopes to monetise the feature. The phone numbers of administrators will not be displayed on the channels.
The new channel is intended to benefit businesses and organizations.
Channels will show in a new tab called Updates on the new WhatsApp feature.
Meta offers routes for corporations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), medical research institutions, and fact-checking organizations.
Admins can communicate text, photographs, videos, stickers, and polls on the channels, according to Mark Zuckerberg's letter. According to TechCrunch, the talks on the channels are one-way, meaning users will not respond to the messages.
While users can join the Channels via an invite link, WhatsApp is also working on a directory to help users find different channels for different occupations.
WhatsApp is developing new tools for administrators.
The business stated that it is working on technologies that will allow administrators to disable discoverability for their channels.
"Today we're announcing WhatsApp Channels — a private way to follow people and organizations that matter to you, right within WhatsApp," Zuckerberg added. We're starting with Singapore and Colombia, but we'll be expanding to everyone else later this year.
Channels are being built to be the most private way to interact. As a channel admin, your phone number will not be displayed to followers, and following a channel will not display it to the admin or those following the channel."
Messages submitted through channels, according to Zuckerberg, would be destroyed after 30 days and no record of them will be kept. WhatsApp announces conversation editing features and a timetable.
According to previous reports, WhatsApp, the world's most popular messaging network, has launched a new feature that allows users to modify their messages.
On Monday, May 22, 2023, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the new feature, stating that users will be able to amend their chats 15 minutes after messages are delivered. Previously, users could either delete or send a correction in separate messages.
